Sanctuary/ Chicago Installation

Installations

Eric Karpeles painted his Sanctuary--- a 30 x 50' self-contained painted meditation space dedicated to the HIV/AIDS community--- at a time when civic and spiritual institutions refused to extend use of their facilities to those dying of the disease. Three-month-long installations were presented in various urban centers around the United States. Sanctuary's final venue was Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

Karpeles is the painter of the Mary and Laurance Rockefeller Chapel of Hope and Remembrance, commissioned by the HealthCare Chaplaincy, an organization representing more than thirty different faith traditions.
